At O’Donohues Bakery, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. As a family-run bakery with generations of expertise, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact while delivering the highest quality baked goods. From responsible sourcing to waste reduction and community support, we take every step with care.
We believe that small, meaningful actions can create a lasting difference. That’s why we continuously improve our processes, invest in eco-friendly packaging, and work with like-minded suppliers who share our vision for a sustainable future.
Sustainable Sourcing
We work closely with trusted suppliers to ensure our ingredients meet the highest sustainability and quality standards. As proud members of Origin Green and holders of BRC accreditation, we are committed to responsible sourcing. Our goal is to increase supplier sustainability certification to 85% by 2025, ensuring that every loaf and soda bread is crafted with care for both our customers and the environment.
Eco-friendly Packaging
We are dedicated to reducing our environmental footprint by using 100% FSC-certified cardboard and wax paper for our packaging. We are also working towards increasing our packaging supplier sustainability certification from 15% to 75% by 2025.
Energy Efficiency
We’re implementing energy-saving initiatives across our bakery, from optimising cold storage to upgrading our ovens and compressed air systems. Our goal is to reduce electricity consumption per tonne of product by 10% by 2025.
Waste Reduction
Minimising waste is one of our top priorities. By streamlining our production process, we have successfully reduced general waste output from 18kg to 12.41kg per tonne. Our goal is to further decrease this to just 10kg per tonne by 2025.
Community Impact
Sustainability goes beyond the environment – it’s also about people. We invest in our community by donating regularly to local charities and events, providing employees with Bike to Work schemes, and partnering with Accessible Counselling Tullamore (ACT) for mental health support. At O’Donohue’s Bakery, we’re dedicated to baking a better future – one loaf at a time.
